Walt Disney Pictures has announced an August 9, 2013 release date for Cars spin-off Planes, according to a report by the Upcoming Pixar [1] blog. The animated feature will go up against Sony's Elysium and We're the Millers.
The move marks a complete reversal from February 2011 [2], when the studio announced Planes will debut on Blu-ray and DVD in the spring of 2013. AWN reported in August 2011 that Jon Cryer [3] will star as Dusty Crophopper, a lowly cropdusting plane who lives in Propwash Junction and dreams of competing in a world-famous aerial race. There is just one problem, though. Dusty is afraid of heights. With the support of his mentor Skipper and a host of new friends, Dusty sets off to make his dreams come true.
Klay Hall is directing the animated spin-off, which will serve as an extension of the world presented in Cars 2.
