Boy Wonder VFX Builds Dream Team
Expanding VFX and production facility Boy Wonder Visual Effects has added Emmy-winning VFX supervisor Tim Landry as creative director. Coming over from a nine-year stint with Dream Quest Images and Walt Disney's Secret Lab VFX facilities, he supervised such projects as GEORGE OF THE JUNGLE, THE SIXTH SENSE, SHANGHAI NOON, SNOW DOGS and HONEY, WE SHRUNK OURSELVES. Landry has joined Boy Wonder to help ramp up its production pipeline to meet the demands of its increasing client roster.Culver City, California-based Boy Wonder, founded in 2001 by Burt Ward (Robin in the BATMAN TV series), generated more than 500 digital effects shots for MGM's BULLETPROOF MONK, while staffing up and building a 3D pipeline. Work has recently been completed on Paramounts DICKIE ROBERTS and continues on MGMs OUT OF TIME, starring Denzel Washington, and independent fantasy feature GEORGE AND THE DRAGON. "The paradigms of visual effects production are changing," noted Landry. "This is a great opportunity to build a company to run the way we believe it needs to be run. As an added bonus, we've been able to bring in many of the artists I've been working with for many years at Disney and Dream Quest and pretty much just pick up where we left off, only in a new environment." In addition to Landry and the crew of new artists, Boy Wonder has added other VFX veterans such as Dennis Hoffman, formerly vp in charge of production for Cinesite Hollywood and executive producer at Dream Quest Images, to run Boy Wonder as gm. Marlo Pabon, formerly compositing supervisor at Disney and Dream Quest, is also on board to head up 2D compositing and quality control. A key client and supporter of Boy Wonder, according to Hoffman, has been John Sullivan, VFX supervisor for BULLETPROOF MONK who is enthusiastic about the facility and its new team. "There have been all sorts of rumors floating around about Boy Wonder and what they're up to," noted Sullivan. "But I'm here to tell you that if it wasn't for Burt Wards enthusiasm and flexibility, coupled with the hard work and professionalism of the excellent team he's brought in, BULLETPROOF MONK could never have been made.""In the last 22 months, weve been swamped completing visual effects on 24 feature films," according to Boy Wonder president Ward. "Our rapid growth and ever-increasing number of shots to output each month no longer allows us to operate with a small crew, and has dictated restructuring our company with seasoned pros and tight controls to insure that our underlying business, creative, and technical issues have been firmly established. Were also developing multiple revenue streams by taking on television and commercial work." For more on Boy Wonder VFX check out www.boywondervfx.com.
