In fifth place, parody film Haunted House made $9.7 million for a total of $31.3 million for Open Road Films, IM Global and Endgame Entertainment. Starring Marlon Wayans, the film is a parody of the Paranormal Activity franchise and other found-footage films.
The action-thriller Broken City, from Emmett/Furla Films and New Regency, and starring Mark Wahlberg, Russell Crowe and Catherine Zeta-Jones, opened to $9.5 million to come in at number six.
In seventh place, Tom Hooper's Les Miserables, brought Universal $9.25 million for a total of $131.8 million.
Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, from the Weinstein Co., came in eighth place, bringing in $9.23 million for a total of $139.4 million.
Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey came in ninth, earning New Line and MGM $7.7 million for a total of $288.7 million.
Rounding out the list at number 10, Lionsgate’s The Last Stand, Arnold Schwarzenegger's first leading role since2003's Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, grossed $7.2 million for its debut.
