For best British film, Aardman Animations/DreamWorks' CHICKEN RUN was defeated by the live-action ballet picture, BILLY ELLIOT. Visual flare was a big winner in the U.K. with GLADIATOR taking home four awards including best picture and CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON also nabbing four awards including best foreign language film and best director for Ang Lee. For outstanding visual effects, THE PERFECT STORM walked away with the prize for its high sea spectacle.
