RUGRATS and DISNEY'S TEACHER'S PET were the big animation winners at the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences' 30th Annual Creative Arts Daytime Emmy Awards, presented during simultaneous ceremonies held at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York and the Sheraton Universal Hotel in Los Angeles, May 10, 2003. RUGRATS from Klasky Csupo won for Outstanding Children's Animated Program while DISNEY'S TEACHER'S PET from Disney TV Animation won for Outstanding Special Class Animated Program. Gregory Hines won the Emmy as the voice of Big Bill in LITTLE BILL.
SESAME STREET, from Scholastic, airing on PBS, won five awards. SESAME STREET won in the categories of main title design, music direction and composition, writing in a children's series, costume design/styling and technical direction/electronic camera/video control. Animation is often interspersed in this long-running live-action series.
The awards for programs broadcast nationally in 2002 between 2:00 am and 6:00 pm are a presentation of NATAS in cooperation with the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The high profile programming categories such as daytime drama and acting awards will be presented during the broadcast on ABC from New York City's Radio Music Hall on Friday, May 16, 2003 (8-11:00 pm ET).
