Animation fans in Los Angeles are in for a treat. The American Cinematheque in Hollywood is planning a month-long adult animation series that includes everything from family-friendly Hayao Miyazaki classics such as Nausicaä of The Valley of The Wind and Castle in the Sky to the adult-themed Fritz The Cat and Heavy Traffic.
The series, compiled by Grant Moninger and Gwen Deglise, kicks off on Thursday, January 9, and runs through Saturday, January 25.
The program also includes Gerald Potterton’s Heavy Metal, Ralph Bakshi’s American Pop, French director and animator Rene Laloux’s masterpiece Fantastic Planet, Richard Linklater’s Waking Life, Satoshi Kon’s Paprika and Tokyo Godfathers, Jan Svankmajer’s Lunacy (followed by “Dimensions Of Dialogue” and “Street of Crocodiles”), Rintaro’s Metropolis (2001) and Shinichiro Watanabe’s Cowboy Bebop: The Movie, as well as an animated shorts program.
