Created in 1985, the Hiroshima Festival celebrates love and peace through the art of animation. The festival is held biennially, under the endorsement of ASIFA and according to its rules. The Hiroshima Festival consists of competition programs, special programs, seminars, workshops and exhibitions. There are no categories for competition -- any animation shorts under 30 minutes and completed after the April of two years prior to the festival year are eligible. For the festival screening, the following formats are acceptable: 35mm, 16mm, Betacam SP (NTSC only), 3/4" U-matic (either on NTSC, PAL,SECAM). VHS (either on NTSC, PAL, SECAM) is acceptable for submissions only. The Hiroshima Festival gives out a Grand Prize (1,000,000 yen), Hiroshima Prize (1,000,000 yen), Debut Prize (500,000 yen), Renzo Kinoshita Prize (250,000 yen), as well as the Special International Jury Prize(s) and the Prize(s) for Outstanding Works.
