There are two programs in this third edition in the
KINETICA series.
Program 1:
Hy Hirsh and the Fifties:
Jazz and Abstraction in Beat Era Film.
Newly-preserved prints of the rarely seen films
of Hy Hirsh are featured in this look at abstraction
in the '50s. The program also includes films by
Hirsh's contemporaries including Jordan Belson,
Harry Smith, Patricia Marx and also John and James
Whitney and Mary Ellen Bute.
Abstract Expressionism, Jazz, Zen and Beat culture ---
all come together in these abstract films of the '50s.
Program 2:
Jordan Belson's "Bardo" and the Contemporary Program.
In the contemporary program of KINETICA 3, more
recent 'visual music' animation will be screened --- both
computer-animated and otherwise, on film and on video,
from the 70s up to the present. This program features the
world premiere of "Bardo," a new work by Jordan Belson,
and also includes work by Sky David, Joost Rekveld,
Richard Reeves, Ying Tan and Paul Glabicki.
