Want to do something nice for kids in Bed-Stuy Brooklyn and Sierra Leone Africa at the same time – and come away with a beautiful piece of art for your troubles? It’ll cost you a few well-worth-it bucks…
Blue Sky’s David LaMattina and Chad Walker are the creators of Brownstones to Red Dirt, a documentary centering on a pen pal program linking kids an ocean apart who have the odds stacked against them: at-risk Brooklyn sixth graders and African war orphans. You can learn more about the film at http://www.brownstonestoreddirt.com/
Mattina and Walker want to do more than make a movie about these kids; they want to change their lives – by building a school in Sierra Leone and a library in Brooklyn. A lot of extremely creative artists and animators are pitching in; they’ve come up with 150 original pen pal-themed ‘postcards’ that are up for auction on eBay, all of which can be seen at http://btorpostcards.blogspot.com/
Want Carroll Spinney’s versions of his Oscar and Big Bird characters? Or Chris Wedge’s high-flying robot mailman? Or any of 147 other creations by various artists, cartoonists and illustrators (a goodly number of whom are Blue Sky folks)? You have until Saturday to outbid your competition, get your hands on the card you want and help these kids to the max. The URL for the auction’s eBay page is way too long to fit in this space, but the above blogspot has a link that will take you directly there.
