Off to San Fran to Meet the Oscar Nominees!
Well, today is a travel day. I’m heading up to San Fran where Ron Diamond and I will meet up with the nominees for dinner at Trapeze. I look forward to meeting in person Don Hahn and Roger Allers, who I had the privilege to interview about their Oscar experiences for this blog. Also joining the Bay Area leg of the tour will be Maestro director Geza Toth and his producer Tamas Liszkas as well as producer Marcy Page of the NFB, representing The Danish Poet, and No Time for Nuts co-director Mike Thurmeier, who I had the pleasure of meeting at Sunday’s Annie Awards, where he and his fellow director Chris Renaud won the best short film award for Nuts. On Friday, while at Pixar, it’s my goal to find the very busy Gary Rydstrom and pick his brain about adding to his four previous Oscar wins and five prior nods for sound. His affiliation with Pixar goes back a long way to their first short, Luxo Jr. I’m excited to meet everyone and anxious to share the entire goings on with you as soon as I can. Check back for updates as the week progresses. Now off to San Fran — EA, PDI/DreamWorks, ILM, Pixar… and Skywalker Ranch await!
