Between Apple itself and Verizon’s latest mapping parody, we’re all familiar with the phrase “There’s an app for that.”
Well, don’t leave anime out!
Today FUNimation announced that it has partnered with Appliya, a leading Japanese iPhone app publisher, to distribute apps based on anime for both the iPhone and iPod Touch. Apps based on Fullmetal Alchemist, Shin Chan, and Afro Samurai are currently on the way.
Nevertheless, details of only one app have been given. Fullmetal Alchemist: State Alchemy Exam will cost $1.99 and will quiz your knowledge of physics, chemistry, and the original Fullmetal Alchemist TV series. It will also offer art and wallpapers directly from the anime.
Hmm, I’m speculating on what joyous filth the Shin Chan app will – hopefully – offer.
Now if that weren’t enough, FUNimation also announced their deal to distribute select titles from the famed Shaw Brothers film library.
Comprising of over 700 films, now under the auspices of Hong Kong based Celestial Pictures, the Shaw Brothers Studio made movies from the 1950’s through the 1990’s, and this includes just about every genre: kung fu, action, satire, horror, historical epic, etc.
So, get your subtitle on! Or, better yet, maybe that classic kung fu flick wonderfully plagued by an asynchronous dub.
Trailers are up and running on the FUNimation blog spot (http://blog.funimation.com).
