A beloved Disneyland attraction returns to Fantasyland on Friday, Feb. 6, when "it's a small world" opens with some new storytelling magic. With the premiere of a new "Spirit of America" scene, new musical enhancements, and a new look for some of the attraction's familiar child dolls, "it's a small world" will once again take guests of all ages on "the happiest cruise that ever sailed."

In the new Broadway hit SHREK THE MUSICAL, DreamWorks Animation is relying on Autodesk's 3D character animation technology. A customized system based on Autodesk MotionBuilder software is being used to generate a digital face in the Magic Mirror, which speaks to Lord Farquaad in real-time for every show.

Plans Submitted for Disney Shanghai

Disney has confirmed that it is submitting plans to the Shanghai government for a new joint-venture theme park, according to VARIETY.

"Discussions have been ongoing about the feasibility of a theme park project in China," according to the statement from Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. "We worked on a joint application report with the Shanghai government which will be submitted to the central government for review. No deal has been signed, no project has been approved."

Disney Offers Funds to Struggling Hong Kong Disneyland

Disney has made an offer to fund expansions at the Hong Kong Disneyland theme park, which is operating at a loss, per VARIETY.

Plans to develop the site have yet to be approved by the Hong Kong government, the park's majority owner. The expansion may demand changes be made to the shareholding structure. Disney's commitment to the floundering park was made public Monday in a submission to Legco, the territory's equivalent to a parliament, by HKDL managing director Andrew Kam Min-ho.

The Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF) is trying out some new elements this year, including a new venue (the Canadian Museum of Civilization), a new free shuttle bus between venues and new additions to programming, like a live art presentation by Daniel Barrow, who uses an overhead projector and narration to create something called "manual animation."

From the shores of enchanting Rio to Sao Paulo’s urban hustle and bustle, I was lucky enough to attend Brazil’s 2008 Anima Mundi festival. This is the only festival I know about that starts in one city for a week and then moves to another town for another week of festivities. While this makes it one of the longest festivals, I think most people would want it to last even a little longer.
