Universal Studios Hollywood has announced the debut of "Van Helsing: Fortress Dracula," an all-new attraction inspired by Universal Pictures' VAN HELSING opening simultaneously with the film's nationwide debut on May 7, 2004. The attraction will transport guests to a world inhabited by Dracula, The Frankenstein Monster and The Wolf Man. The attraction will feature special effects as well as hundreds of artifacts, original props and set pieces, created for the movie.

IMAX Corporation's co-chair/ co-ceo Richard L. Gelfond has announced the official opening of the first commercially-operated IMAX theatre in China. The IMAX Theatre at Peace Cinema will be operated by Shanghai Evershining IMAX Theatre Co. Ltd. and Shanghai United Cinema Line Co. Ltd. Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment's APOLLO 13 will mark its first exhibition in China at the new theater.

IMAX Corp. has signed an agreement with Daytona USA, the official attraction of NASCAR, to open a new IMAX 3D theatre alongside the Daytona International Speedway. Headline News Nanyang Polytechnic Students Provide Toons for Trains

Starting on February 12, 2004, a total of 27 animated shorts from Nanyang Polytechnic students will air on MRT trains in Singapore, reports CHANNEL NEWS ASIA. Nanyang Polytechnic partner TV Mobile put the deal together.

Kim Wong-Nathan, programming director of TV Mobile at MediaCorp, said, "Our average commuting time is about 26 minutes and these animations comes in fun short bites, and it's actually refreshing and entertaining for our TV commuters, and for people on the move."

Headline News Academy's New Theater Named for VFX Pioneer Dunn

It's fitting that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has named its newest theater, a 286-seat state-of-the-art screening room at the Pickford Center in Hollywood, in honor of optical, vfx pioneer Linwood Dunn.

"Linwood Dunn was a giant in the motion picture field, a gifted artist and scientist who made enormous contributions to our art form throughout most of the 20th century," said Academy president Frank Pierson. "Naming the theater in Lin's honor made eminent sense to the board of governors."

Design/post-production house Perception has delivered kiosk display sequences for the National Constitution Center (www.constitutioncenter.org), which opened its doors in Philadelphia July 4, 2003. For the seven 10-second animation sequences, Perception teamed with director Hock Films Jonathan Hock, who recently collaborated with Perception on the show opens to ESPN's STREETBALL and BLOCK PARTY. The permanent exhibit, entitled "Point Counterpoint," presents short films featuring actors arguing both sides of some of the influential teachings of American history and culture.

Iwerks Entertainment has opened a new Iwerks 3D/4D FX Theatre at Xidan Cultural Plaza in Beijing, China. The new multimedia attraction showcases PIRATES, a 3D attraction film from the Iwerks film library, enhanced with in-theater special effects. This is the second Iwerks 3D/4D FX Theatre installed in China. The first opened in Shenzen in 2000. Universal Studios Hollywood has launched a live, interactive musical and comedy adventure, based on the new DreamWorks computer-animated feature SHREK. Shrek Live is scheduled for weekend performances through June 16, 2001, followed by daily performances through Labor Day weekend. Walt Disney will be releasing a sing along version of Walt Disney's Academy Award-winning classic MARY POPPINS.
