Disada Producing Peter Pan 100th Anniversary Show In Florida

Celebrating the 100th anniversary of the publication of the first PETER PAN book by James M. Barrie, Disada has been asked by the Venice Art Center in Florida, south of St. Petersburg, to curate a PETER PAN exhibition. It will consists of original items from the first release of the classic 1953 Walt Disney animated feature PETER PAN. Disada's large collection of animation includes more than 300 items from the 1953 release and the exhibition includes original artwork, various posters and publicity items, toys, publications, records and a grand variety of other items from 1953.

Gilliam’s Grimm Gets Bumped a Year

Famed director Terry Gilliam seems to not be able to get a flick in theaters these days. With his production of DON QUIXOTE being shut down midway, the BRAZIL helmer moved onto film THE BROTHERS GRIMM, which was originally set to reach theaters fall 2004 then it was moved to February 2005 and now Dimension Films has bumped the fantastic account of the fairy tale writers, The Brothers Grimm, to Nov. 23, 2005.

Fanning to Headline Potential Alice in Wonderland Series

Ten-year-old acting phenom Dakota Fanning is in negotiations with DreamWorks to headline a series of films based on Lewis Carroll's ALICE IN WONDERLAND and THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS, reports THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. The screenplays have been adapted by Les Bohem, who created the Sci Fi Channels epic mini-series TAKEN, which starred Fanning. The effects heavy films will stick very close to the source material. Industry Ent. will produce the film with Mark Sourian and Keith Addis sheparding the project for DreamWorks.

Kids Animate PSAs at Camp TELETOON

Twelve young people, ages 8-12 will be able to animate public service announcements (PSAs) of their choosing at CAMP TELETOON in Vancouver, at a 10-day workshop, Aug. 23-Sept. 3, 2004. In a series of hands-on workshops, the youths will develop three broadcast-quality, animated PSAs for broadcast on the TELETOON Network starting in October 2004. This community-based initiative is a partnership program between Vancouver-based Arts Umbrella Scholarship Program, Canadian broadcaster TELETOON and Vancouvers Studio B Productions.

Conran Confims Princess of Mars

Writer/director Kerry Conran (SKY CAPTAIN AND THE WORLD OF TOMORROW, opening Sept. 17, 2004), confirmed with VFXWORLD that he has committed to directing Paramount's A PRINCESS OF MARS as his sophomore project. The sci-fi action epic, scheduled for release in 2006, is based on the first book in Edgar Rice Burroughs' 11-volume series, JOHN CARTER OF MARS, which concerns an American Civil War hero that finds himself transported to Mars.

The PC version of Got Game Entertainments ALIDA is available now at retail stores across North America. The Mac version of the game was released earlier this year. Warner Announces Release Date for Matrix DVD Set

ADV Films Announces Lady Death DVD

ADV Films has announced a street date of Oct. 5, 2004 for the DVD of LADY DEATH: THE MOTION PICTURE ($29.98), the first animated feature produced by the companys original content division. Working closely with LADY DEATH creator Brian Pulido, first time director and conceptual designer Andrew Orjuela teamed with writer Carl Macek,(developer and story editor of the ROBOTECH series, and producer/director of the English language version of VAMPIRE HUNTER D) to bring the Chaos! Comics character to the screen. ALI composer Bill Brown provided the score.

New Zealand Gets Into Fantasy Epic Game for Itself

Wellington-based Silverscreen Prods. and visual effects company Oktobor are forming a company with Taiwan-based Equinox Film to produce a $40 million epic fantasy based on a popular Asian legend, titled LADY WHITE SNAKE, reports THE DOMINION POST. The film will be in English and is set for release in 2008 before the Beijing Olympics.

Marvel’s Deathlok Gets New Scribe

Paramount and Marvel Studios have hired David Self (ROAD TO PERDITION) to rewrite the screen adaptation of Marvel Comics DEATHLOK, reports THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. Stu Zicherman and Raven Metzner (ELEKTRA) wrote the first draft. The story follows everyman who becomes a test subject for a technology research lab that transforms him into a living computer. Marvel Studios' Avi Arad and Crystal Sky Prods. Steven Paul are producing. No director has been seen. DIE ANOTHER DAY helmer Lee Tamahori had long been attached to direct, but has since stepped down.

Animated Fare Swim Into Toronto Fest

The Toronto International Film festival has announced its lineup of 328 films. As for animated fare, DreamWorks SHARK TALE will swim into the gala presentation, making its North American premiere. Also making its North American debut will be Japanese 2D feature, STEAMBOY, directed by Katsuhiro Otomo. Arriving in the Gala slot as well will be John Stephenson's live-action and animated film, FIVE CHILDREN AND IT, starring Kenneth Branagh.
