There will be a seven-minute clip from X-MEN: THE LAST STAND (opening May 26, 2006, from Fox) going live tonight (May 12, 2006) at midnight EST exclusively at www.dell.com/x-men.

Also on the site is access to a sweepstakes to win Dells XPS X-MEN: THE LAST STAND Collectors Edition computer system. The system, based on a next-generation XPS gaming desktop, is custom painted with images from X-MEN: THE LAST STAND. It is valued at about $10,000. Warner Bros. Interactive Ent. and Clint Eastwood announced at E3 that Gene Hackman and Laurence Fishburne will provide their voice and likeness in the upcoming videogame based on the DIRTY HARRY film franchise. Hackman will portray Police supervisor Al Bressler and Fishburne will play Reverend Carlton Clay opposite Eastwood as the legendary Dirty Harry Callahan in the game on next-generation consoles.

Artist-owned-and-operated visual effects company Brickyard VFX has hired compositing and visual effects talent Jimi Simmons. A multiple Emmy Award nominee, Simmons brings to the Brickyard VFX team extensive visual effects experience, including work for Francis Ford Coppola, George Lucas, Philip Kaufman, Spaz Williams, Mark Dippé and other notable film, music video and commercial directors. A resource for both Brickyard VFX Atlantic and Brickyard VFX Pacific projects, he will be based in Boston.

Activision to Open Facility on DreamWorks Animation Campus

Activision will be opening a dedicated studio facility on the DreamWorks Animation campus in Glendale, California, following on the heels of their strategic alliance. The move, which establishes an unprecedented level of collaboration between a Hollywood studio and a videogame company, will facilitate simultaneous co-development between DreamWorks' 3D-animated features and Activision games based on those films.

Journey 3-D Starts Shooting in June

Walden Media and New Line will begin production on JOURNEY 3-D in Montreal in June, casting Josh Hutcherson (RV, ZATHURA: A SPACE ADVENTURE) opposite Brendan Fraser, reports VARIETY.

Hutcherson will portray the nephew of a geologist (Fraser) who stumbles upon a mystery with strange creatures while on an expedition.

Poseidon Opens in IMAX

POSEIDON will be released in IMAX theaters worldwide on Friday (May 12, 2006), in addition to conventional theaters. Poseidon is the second IMAX DMR film release from Warner Bros. Toshiba Launches First HD DVD Laptop

Toshiba has introduced the first laptop capable of playing next-generation, high-definition DVDs.

The Qosmio G35-AV650 supports the HD DVD format, which Toshiba helped develop, and also plays standard DVDs. Its dual drive can write data onto both standard DVDs and dual-layer discs, which can store twice as much information.

SCI FI's Saturday night original movie franchise, promises more action, thrills, creatures, cataclysmic disasters and mythologically-based subject matter in 2007 with 28 new film projects slated for premiere, it was announced by Thomas P. Vitale, svp of programming & original movies, SCI FI.

But there many more to come in 2006, such as A.I. ASSAULT, the latest installment in the current season of SC IFI Movies. The Cinetel Films Inc. production premiered May 6, 2006, and encores on May 11 at 9:00 pm on the SCI FI Channel.

Silicon Graphics Seeks Bankruptcy Protection

Silicon Graphics Inc. has filed for bankruptcy protection under Chapter 11 on May 8, 2006, after a round of restructuring measures failed, and signed an agreement with its lenders to reduce the companys debt by about $250 million, according to SGI officials.

In court papers, SGI said it had been challenged by delays in introducing new technology, a focus on more specialized markets and more intense competition from larger rivals.

PlayStation 3 Details Unveiled

Sony Computer Ent. America (SCEA) announced that it would release PlayStation 3 (PS3) in North America on Nov.17. There will be two versions: The low-end model (with 20GB internal hard drive but no HDMI output) will retail for $499; the high-end model (with 60GB internal hard drive) will retail for $599). Both models will take advantage of the new Blu-ray disc platform for the next-generation in high-def DVD home entertainment.

Weinsteins Acquire Knight Rider Rights

The Weinstein Co. has acquired the rights to develop and produce a feature film based on the original hit television series, KNIGHT RIDER. The rights were purchased from Glen A. Larson (KNIGHT RIDER, MAGNUM P.I., FALL GUY, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA), the original creator of the television show, and he will write the script and exec produce the project through his production company Glen A. Larson Prods. David Price brought the project to The Weinstein Co.'s attention and will co-produce it.
