Zoic Helps Lightening Strike Twice for Cadillac

With the help of Zoic Studios, lightning strikes twice in a new :30 spot for Cadillac. In the commercial, a beautiful CTS sedan hugs the road while the sky above rumbles and flashes with a seething storm. Suddenly, electricity rages down from above, striking the ground and surrounding the new STS.

To accomplish the look at feel of the supercharged commercial, Zoics compositor Patti Gannon executed complex total sky replacement and enhancement, which included accounting for speed changes and adding hand-painted lightning and resulting glow. This process provided depth and realism to the stormy sky by providing depth of field and variety in each frame. For the two major lightning strikes, 3D models were created and animated by Zoics CG supervisor Michael Capton. The second strike was incorporated into a 180-degree move around the car, which punctuates the arrival of the all-new STS and deftly illustrates that with Cadillac quality breeds success. Meanwhile, Siggy Ferstl was the colorist for R!OT of Santa Monica, California.
