Warner Bros. has re-titled its 300 spinoff and is narrowing down the potential director's field, reports Deadline.com. Based on Frank Miller's upcoming 300 prequel XERXES, the film will be released as 300: BATTLE OF ARTEMISIA. The studio has also trimmed the field of directors to two — Noam Murro (SMART PEOPLE) and Jaume Collet-Serra (UNKNOWN).

Zack Snyder was set to direct before he left the project to helm MAN OF STEEL. He adapted the script with Kurt Johnstad.

The story tells the tale of Persian ruler Xerxes trying to become a god after his father Darius told him that only God could kill the Greeks. Darius suffered mortal injuries in the Battle of Marathon against the Greeks.

Zack Synder, Deborah Snyder, Mark Canton, Gianni Nunnari, Thomas Tull and Bernie Goldmann are producing. Legendary Pictures is back as the production company.
