X-Men Claim More International Victories

With WHAT LIES BENEATH slowly sinking, THE X-MEN have claimed debut victories around the globe. In Spain, the mighty mutants premiered in first with a gross of US$2.02 million. In its second week in Spain, THE CELL fell to third, grossing $997,797 thus elevating its cume to $2.02 million. Dropping 46%, HOLLOW MAN placed sixth with a gross of $381,275, lifting its Spanish cume to $8.86 million. In eighth, NUTTY PROFESSOR II: THE KLUMPS fell a humongous 52%, grossing $315,201 and raising its Spanish cume to $1.65 million. X-MEN's debut in Japan placed the action flick in first with a gross of $1.64 million. Sinking from second to third, U-571 captured $798,679 thereby advancing its Japanese cume to $4.46 million. In its fourth week in Japan, Toei's NAGASAKI BURABURA BUSHI finished in fifth, grossing $601,198 and bringing its cume to $2.74 million. In seventh, GONE IN 60 SECONDS scored $493,169, lifting its Japanese cume to $3.81 million. THE PATRIOT rode in at #8 with a gross of $412,637, increasing its Japanese cume to $1.34 million. In ninth, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 2 grabbed $306,480, escalating its Japanese cume to $27.2 million. In its second week in South Africa, X-MEN succumbed to the premiere of Jackie Chan's live-action adventure/comedy SHANGHAI NOON, placing second with a gross of $183,833 and growing its cume to $699,778. Right behind in third, URBAN LEGENDS: FINAL CUT carved out $94,405 in its debut. Last week's #2 film, THE FLINTSTONES VIVA ROCK VEGAS fell to fifth with a gross of $68,258, pushing its South African cume to $240,879. In sixth, HOLLOW MAN hearkened another $61,774, lifting its South African cume to $566,432. NUTTY II took the eighth notch with a gross of $40,809, elevating its South African cume to $274,680. THE TIGGER MOVIE bounced in at ninth, grossing $38,876 thus jumping its South African cume to $124,978. Finishing out the top ten, U-571 surfaced an additional $27,933, increasing its South African cume to $445,964. In Mexico, WHAT LIES BENEATH held on to first place with a gross of $1.76 million, elevating its cume to $4.07 million. Moving up to third with an amazing increase of 189%, HOLLOW MAN amassed $1.06 million, raising its three-week Mexican cume to $4.1 million. In sixth, THE KLUMPS collected $335,907, raising its Mexican cume to $2.68 million. After eight weeks in Mexico, X-MEN scrounged up $170,140, bringing its cume to $10.6 million. In Germany, the premiere of SCARY MOVIE pushed WHAT LIES out of first with a gross of $5.36 million. WHAT LIES floated $2.28 million in second, advancing its German cume to $5.74 million. Crashing 55%, FINAL DESTINATION landed in third, grossing $1.16 million, flying its German cume to $6.17 million. In sixth, THE ROAD TO EL DORADO rounded up $745,865 in its debut. In its second week in German theaters, Warner Bros.' LITTLE VAMPIRE has sucked up another $536,045, raising its cume to $1.51 million.
