Writers Guild Announces Nominees

The Writers Guild has announced the nominees for the 55th Annual Writers Guild Awards. For the first time this year, all animated programs (long form original, long form adaptation, specials and episodic) are competing in the new television animation category. Animation programming scripted by WGA members was previously submitted under the appropriate category (i.e. 30-minute comedy, hour-long drama). This year's new animation category was open to all members of the Animation Writers Caucus, whether or not the show was covered by WGA guidelines. For future nominees, the WGA's Patric M. Verrone told AWN that the hope is to have only shows covered by the WGA or The Animation Guild, Local 839, be eligible to submit. The Animation category nominees for the 55th Annual Writers Guild Awards are:

"The Bart Wants What It Wants" (THE SIMPSONS). Written by John Frink & Don Payne; Gracie Films in association with 20th Century Fox Television. (FOX)

"Blame It On Lisa" (THE SIMPSONS). Written by Bob Bendetson; Gracie Films in association with 20th Century Fox Television. (FOX)

"Godfellas" (FUTURAMA). Written by Ken Keeler; 20th Century Fox Television. (FOX)

"Jaws Wired Shut" (THE SIMPSONS). Written by Matt Selman; Gracie Films in association with 20th Century Fox Television. (FOX)

"My Own Private Rodeo" (KING OF THE HILL). Written by Alex Gregory & Peter Huyck; 20th Century Fox Television Productions in association with Deedle-Dee Productions, Judgmental Films and 3 Arts Entertainment. (FOX)

SANTA, BABY! Written by Peter Bakalian & Suzanne Collins; Rankin/Bass. (FOX)

The nominated scripts were originally broadcast between September 1, 2001 and November 30, 2002. The winners will be announced Saturday, March 8, 2003, at the 55th Annual Writers Guild Awards ceremonies on both coasts. The Writers Guild of America, West ceremonies will be held in Beverly Hills at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, and the Writers Guild of America, East ceremonies will be held in New York at The Pierre Hotel.
