World Animation Celebration Kicks off Nov. 1

One-day festival of animated shorts showcases CG, stop motion, 2D digital, experimental and traditional hand-drawn animation from over 40 countries around the world.

Everyone in Los Angeles is getting ready for Halloween tomorrow night, but the real treat comes on November 1st, when Animation Magazine, in conjunction with the Los Angeles Film School and Animation Liberation Studios, presents the World Animation Celebration, a one-day festival of animated shorts kicking off the World Animation & VFX Summit.

The festival will showcase animated short films from over 40 countries in a variety techniques, including CG, stop motion, 2D digital, experimental and traditional hand-drawn animation.

Special guests for the event include Floyd Norman, the long-tenured storyboard artist and lead animator best known for his work on The Flinstones and Scooby Doo. Norman began his career in the 1960s working directly under Walt Disney on many storied films including The Jungle Book.

The films will be judged by an expert panel featuring Raul Garcia, Lee Crowe, Robb Denovan, Yvette Kaplan, Pete Michels, Brooke Keesling, Eric Daniels, Stephen Chiodo, Ian Hamilton, Mark Aguilar and four-time Emmy nominee Juli Murphy. These distinguished men and women have served in senior animation capacities on films including the Harry Potter series, in senior roles at MTV and PBS, and on hit animated series including Hey Arnold!, among many others.
