Wizart Announces New Sales in Cannes

Russian animation studio‘s newest projects to be released in Baltic States, Spain, Middle East, South Korea and Pakistan.

Cannes, France -- Wizart Animation, one of the leading animation studios in Russia, has announced it has closed new deals during Marche du Film. Wizart’s projects were presented at the Russian Cinema stand, organized by Cinema Fund of Russia. The Snow Queen 2 (2014) will air in Spain, Benelux, Czech Republic and Slovakia this year, Wizart’s brand new project The Snow Queen 3 (2016) rights were sold to Middle East, Baltic States, Turkey; Sheep and Wolves (2016) theatrical rights were sold to Bulgaria and Baltic States and Urfin and His Wooden Soldiers (2016) to South Korea and Baltic States.

Wizart’s both installments of The Snow Queen franchise to date have been already released in than 80 territories. During Marche du Film new deals were closed for these projects. The Snow Queen (2012) and The Snow Queen 2 (2014) all rights including theatrical were acquired by Barton Films for Spain and by Bollywood Films for Pakistan. It’s the first time when a Russian film will be released theatrically in Pakistan. According to Joe Mirza CEO of Bollywood Films, “These films are of a very high standard and they can compete with any of the other product in the market at the moment”.

This year The Snow Queen 2 will also enjoy release in the US (all rights were acquired by Entertainment One), Benelux (all rights were acquired by Just4Kids in the first market days), Czech Republic and Slovakia (all rights were acquired by ITA FILM in the first market days), France, Germany, Brazil, China, Japan, Malaysia, Bulgaria, Indonesia, Thailand.

The third installment of the franchise The Snow Queen 3: Fire and Ice (2016) announced at the opening of Marche du Film has also found its first buyers.  All rights were sold to Shooting Stars for Middle East countries where the movie will have day-and-date release in 2016, all rights for Baltic States were sold to ACME Film and all rights for Turkey to Medyavizyon. Cinema Republic has acquired all rights including theatrical to South Korea.

Sheep and Wolves (2016) will be theatrically released in Baltic States (ACME Film has secured all the rights), Bulgaria (all right were acquired by Pro Films) and Pakistan (Bollywood Films). “Given the success of the Snow Queen 2, that we have released this winter, we are really excited about the potential for Sheep and Wolves and anticipate a very strong showing for the film,” commented Stede Ingram, CEO of ACME Film.

Best Film has secured the rights for Urfin and His Wooden Soldiers (2016), Wizart’s distribution project produced by Melnitsa animation, for Baltic States, and Smile Entertainment for South Korea. “We have really enjoyed the quality of the project produced by Melnitsa Animation and distributed by Wizart, and we anticipate a very strong release for the film backed by a powerhouse P&A campaign which will undoubtedly attract a big audience” commented Ljudmila Gosteva from Best Film.
