'The Wind Rises' to Screen at TIFF

Marking the film's North American premiere, the Toronto International Film Festival adds Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli's newest animated feature, The Wind Rises, to its list of screening films.

The Toronto International Film Festival has& added Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli's newest animated feature, The Wind Rises, to its list of screening films, according to a report by the Anime News Network. The screening will mark the film's North American premiere.

The Wind Rises opened on July 20 in Japan, where the film earned roughly $9.7 million to top Japan's box office for the weekend.

The film centers on Jirō Horikoshi (played by Evangelion director Hideaki Anno), the designer of Japan's famed Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighter plane of World War II, and the poet Tatsuo Hori, whose verses are brought to life by the vivid animation of Studio Ghibli. The film is also screening at the Venice International Film Festival, which will be held from August 28-September 7.
