Wimpy Kid No More

Author/illustrator Jeff Kinney's DIARY OF A WIMPY KID series is headed to the big screen via Fox 2000, THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER said Thursday.

The potential franchise will be converted into a live-action family film, and Fox 2000 is currently looking for a director and screenwriter for the project.

The studio purchased the rights to five novels, of which only two have been released: DIARY OF A WIMPY KID last spring and this month's DIARY OF A WIMPY KID: RODRICK RULES.

Both hit No. 1 on the NEW YORK TIMES bestseller list, the first staying there almost a year.

Third book DIARY OF A WIMPY KID: THE LAST STRAW should hit shelves later in 2008.

The series is made of handwriting and animation and documents the daily indignities faced by middle school student Greg Heffley.

Nina Jacobson (formerly Buena Vista president) will produce the first picture, and Carla Hacken will oversee development for Fox 2000.
