Wildcat Adds Drive To Sun Accelerators

3Dlabs' Wildcat technology is pushing the power of the Sun XVR-1200 graphics accelerator, which is available for Sun Blade 2000 workstations and Sun Fire 6800 servers from Sun Microsystems, Inc. Dr. Jon Peddie, president of Jon Peddie Research, a leading market research firm in graphics, said this combination "exemplifies the most outstanding technological innovation we've seen from this dynamic duo to date, which is in a segment we are forecasting to be worth $500 million in 2003 and growing to $700 million by 2005."

Wildcat enables the Sun XVR-1200 to get five times the geometric performance and more than four times the texture mapping performance of its predecessor, the Sun Expert3D graphics accelerator, said Jerry Peterson, exec vp/gm of 3Dlabs workstation division. "By leveraging 3Dlabs world-class graphics technology and industry leading 416 MB of total onboard memory, the Sun XVR-1200 graphics accelerator can easily tackle the toughest, most memory intensive MCAD, DCC, or GIS projects."

Equipped with multiview and genlock support, the Wildcat graphics-based solution in the Sun XVR-1200 graphics accelerator is well-suited for geographic information systems (GIS), mechanical computer-aided design (MCAD), digital content creators (DCC) and visual simulation professionals. Shahin Khan, vp of high performance and technical computing business unit at Sun, reports beta sites are yielding great performance boosts with Wildcat in the new Sun accelerator.
