First theatrical trailer for the new ‘Star Trek’ movie to be attached to ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ alongside trailers for ‘Captain America: Civil War,’ ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,’ ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ and ‘Independence Day: Resurgence.’
With the world premiere of director J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens taking place tonight, Paramount Pictures has released the first teaser for the next Star Trek movie, Star Trek Beyond.
The first theatrical trailer for Star Trek Beyond will be attached to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, according to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, likely accompanied by trailers for tentpole features Captain America: Civil War, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, X-Men: Apocalypse and Roland Emmerich’s alien invasion sequel, Independence Day: Resurgence.
The teaser for Star Trek Beyond introduces Simon Pegg’s Lieutenant Commander Montgomery “Scotty” Scott. (Pegg, a Star Trek fan who was critical of the previous film, Star Trek Into Darkness, co-wrote the script with Doug Jung.)
The primary visual effects house for the movie is Double Negative, with previsualization services provided by Proof Inc. Directed by Justin Lin, Star Trek Beyond arrives in theaters in time to commemorate the sci-fi franchise’s 50th anniversary. (Also in the works is the new Star Trek TV series, which is slated to debut on CBS before being made available through the network’s streaming service.)
Alongside Pegg, the film sees returning stars Chris Pine as Captain James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Commander Spock, Karl Urban as Lieutenant Commander Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy, John Cho as Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu, Zoe Saldana as Lieutenant Nyota Uhura, Deep Roy as Keenser, and Anton Yelchin as Ensign Pavel Chekov. They are joined by Idris Elba, Sofia Boutella, Joe Taslim and Lydia Wilson.
Star Trek Beyond transports into theaters on July 22.
