WATCH: John Kricfalusi Directs Halloween Couch Gag Segment for ‘The Simpsons’

‘Ren and Stimpy’ creator joins illustrious list of guest animators including ‘World of Tomorrow’ director Don Hertzfeldt, Guillermo Del Toro, Bill Plympton, Sylvain Chomet and Michal Socha.

Legendary animator and Ren and Stimpy creator John Kricfalusi has created the opening “Couch Gag” sequence for this weekend’s “Treehouse of Horror XXVI” episode of The Simpsons.

As you might expect from Kricfalusi, the segment is evocative of the Looney Tunes work of such animation greats as Bob Clampett, Tex Avery and Chuck Jones, with touches of classic Disney Halloween shorts like 1949’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow:

Previous guest animators include World of Tomorrow director Don Hertzfeldt, Guillermo Del Toro, Bill Plympton, Sylvain Chomet and Michal Socha.

In the annual fright fest Halloween episode -- airing Sunday night -- Sideshow Bob (voiced by Kelsey Grammer) finally kills Bart, only to reanimate him; Homer wakes up with short-term memory loss; and Lisa, Bart, and Milhouse get super powers from radiation.
