Watch: Exclusive Clip from ‘Letter to Momo’

The new animated film from Hiroyuki Okiura and Tokyo-based anime powerhouse Production I.G. opens in select cities August 29.

Here’s an exclusive clip from Letter to Momo, the new animated film from Hiroyuki Okiura (Jin-Roh: Wolf BrigadeGhost In The ShellPatlabor) and Tokyo-based anime powerhouse Production I.G.

Seven years in the making, the film is an enchanting coming-of-age story about family, loss and finding friends where you least expect it. The last time Momo saw her father they had a fight -- and now all she has left to remember him by is an incomplete letter, a blank piece of paper penned with the words “Dear Momo” but nothing more. Moving with her mother to the remote Japanese island of Shio, Momo soon discovers three yokai living in her attic, a trio of mischievous spirit creatures that only she can see and who create mayhem in the tiny seaside community as she tries desperately to keep them hidden. But these funny monsters have a serious side and may hold the key to helping Momo discover what her father had been trying to tell her.

Letter to Momo arrives in select theaters in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Minneapolis and Washington D.C. on August 29, with additional U.S. cities to be announced in the following weeks on the GKIDS Facebook page.
