Warner Bros. Developing ‘Dragonriders of Pern’ Film Franchise

The studio options the 22-volume book series from the estate of American-Irish author Anne McCaffrey, who died in 2011.

Warner Bros. is launching the development of a movie franchise based on the sci-fi series “Dragonriders of Pern,” according to a report by Deadline.

The studio has optioned the 22-volume book series from the estate of American-Irish author Anne McCaffrey, who died in 2011. A producer for the project has not been named.

The books, first published in 1968, are set in a pre-industrial society with intelligent fire breathing dragons and their riders teaming to fight a rogue planet that attacks the world of Pern. The books take place over a period of over 2,500 years.

Drew Crevello and Julia Spiro are overseeing for the studio, which has launched the Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and Hobbit franchises.
