Waltz Wins WGA Award for Documentary

WALTZ WITH BASHIR won the Writers Guild Award for Documentary Screenplay. Ari Folman's film is also up for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film, not qualifying for the Oscar for best doc.

The winners were announced at the 2009 Writers Guild Awards held on Saturday, February 7, 2009, at simultaneous ceremonies in New York and Los Angeles.

MILK won for Original Screenplay (Dustin Lance Black, Focus Features) and SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE won for Adapted Screenplay (Simon Beaufoy, Based on the Novel Q & A by Vikas Swarup, Fox Searchlight Pictures).

Original Screenplay noms included BURN AFTER READING, MILK, VICKY CRISTINA BARCELONA, THE VISITOR and THE WRESTER. Up for adapted screenplay were THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON, THE DARK KNIGHT, DOUBT, FROST/NIXON and SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE.

Winning for Television Animation, "Apocalypse Cow" (THE SIMPSONS) won, written by Jeff Westbrook for FOX.

Neil Patrick Harris (HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER) hosted the West Coast show and John Oliver of THE DAILY SHOW WITH JON STEWART hosted the East Coast show.

STAR WARS: THE FORCE UNLEASHED, Writers Haden Blackman, Shawn Pitman, John Stafford and Cameron Suey, LucasArts won for Videogame Writing.
