PUBLISHERS WEEKLY reported this week that Stan Lee and Viz Media are going to create a new manga series for Japanese audiences.
Lee was the former president of Marvel Comics and Viz publishes the bestselling manga series NARUTO and BLEACH. Lee and his entertainment company Pow! Entertainment will collaborate with manga creator Hiroyuki Takei (creator of SHAMAN KING) on ULTIMO.
It will premiere later this month in JUMP SQ II, a special edition of JUMP SQ, a monthly manga magazine published by Shueisha (one of Viz's parent companies) and the publisher of WEEKLY SHONEN JUMP.
"I really can't say much now," Marc Wiedenbaum, editor in chief of the U.S. edition of SHONEN JUMP, told PUBLISHERS WEEKLY, "except that it's coming out, it's historic, and we're excited."
ULTIMO features two warring figures, Vice and Ultimo, who are shrouded in mystery. The special edition JUMP SQ II will feature a 32-page prologue.
More information about the project will be available at New York Comic Con later in April.
