Peter Chernin's first major films project acquisition at Twentieth Century Fox was pitched as a "300"-like retelling of the story of Moses, Variety reports.

The film will follow Moses "from his near death as an infant to his adoption into the Egyptian royal family, his defiance of the Pharaoh and deliverance of the Hebrews from enslavement," according to Variety.

Adam Cooper and Bill Collage, who are co-writing the script, just completed a scripted retelling of "Moby Dick" for Universal.

Both films were conceived as visually stunning action epics.
