VARIETY reports that 20th Century Fox has officially selected Matthew Vaughn to direct X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, which is set to hit theaters June 3, 2011. Filming will begin this summer.

Bryan Singer devised the story and will produce alongside Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg.

The prequel will deal with the relationship between Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr, aka Professor X and Magneto, respectively, as they form The Xavier School For Gifted Youngsters.

Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz penned the script.
