Despite dropping out of the sequel for TWILIGHT, director Catherine Hardwicke is teaming again with TWILIGHT producers Summit Ent. for the fantasy-drama IF I STAY, according to VARIETY.

Based on Gayle Forman's novel, which will be published by Dutton Children's Books this spring, the story follows a talented classical musician and her alt-rock boyfriend who are involved in a live or death car crash with her family.

Hardwicke decided not to helm the TWILIGHT sequel NEW MOON in December after she felt Summit's tight schedule would not give her enough time to make a better film than the original. Summit later hired Chris Weitz (THE GOLDEN COMPASS) to direct.
