The Town Steals #1 Slot at Box Office

Warner Bros.' THE TOWN surprised projectors, stealing the #1 slot at the U.S. box office for the weekend of Sept. 17-19, 2010. The crime thriller collected $23.8 million.

Screen Gems' EASY A seduced the second spot with $18.2 million. In third, Universal's DEVIL (with vfx from Custom Film Effects) debuted with $12.6 million.

Last week's #1, RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE, descended to fourth with another $10.1 million. With visual effects from Anibrain, Mr. X, Paul Jones Effects Studio and XYZ-RGB, the zombie apocalypse flick has a cume of $44 million.

Lionsgate's ALPHA AND OMEGA howled in fifth with $9.2 million. Crest Animation Productions animated the 3-D CG feature.

Screen Gems' TAKERS plummeted to #6, adding another $3 million to its $52.3 million cume.

In at #7, Focus Features' THE AMERICAN shot up an additional $2.76 million. With vfx from Modus FX, the George Clooney starrer has brought in a total of $32.9 million.

Once again Warner Bros.' INCEPTION showed legs and moved up from tenth to eighth, dreaming up another $2.02 million. With vfx from Double Negative, Christopher Nolan's hit thriller has earned $285.2 million.

Sony's THE OTHER GUYS collared another $2 million, lifting its cume to $115.4 million.

Closing out the top ten, MACHETE slashed an additional $1.7 million. With vfx from Troublemaker Studios, the illegal immigrant adventure has a cume of $24.3 million.
