Toronto-based Switch VFX, a visual effects studio specializing in photorealistic effects and CG character creation for feature films and television, marked its first anniversary in February. Switch VFX recently completed visual effects work on the Fox/Sci Fi Channel series pilot ANONYMOUS REX and on the GalaFilm Prods. TV movie TRIPPING THE WIRE, as well as title design for the CBC miniseries WHISKEY ECHO.

Current visual effects projects in the Switch VFX pipeline include the ESPN series TILT and NBC Universal’s remake of the classic ‘70s television series KOJAK, starring Ving Rhames. Switch VFX is also in pre-production on visual effects for several new feature films, entering full production in the spring of 2005.

Switch VFX was founded in February 2004 by visual effects supervisor Jon Campfens, exec producer Pete Denomme and finance and business affairs executive Laurie Thompson, all of whom have had distinguished careers in the industry, with the intent to bring experience and talent to a highly responsive, affordable and independent new venture.

Campfens, co-founder and visual effects supervisor of Switch VFX, said: "When we created Switch VFX a year ago, we believed that our combination of extremely talented senior artists and a lean operating philosophy would enable us to produce quality work for the global community. We are delighted that the past year has proven us correct. We plan to continue our focus on feature films for the future."

Switch VFX and sister company Yowza Digital, a 3D animation boutique, operate in affiliation with Yowza Animation, a noted producer of traditional 2D animation for feature films. Yowza Animation has recently been awarded work on an upcoming Universal Pictures animated feature and has also completed a direct-to-video project for DisneyToons.
