Stargate Digital, the visual effects studio based in Pasadena, Californa, has opened a new facility, Stargate Digital UK, at London's historic Pinewood Studios.

The new high-speed, deep storage digital facility is modeled after Stargate's growing and groundbreaking Los Angeles and Vancouver studios. All three studios will be linked via a state-of-the art high-speed, high-resolution digital network and will be able to quickly and efficiently work on projects and pool talent.

The U.K. arm already is working on the visual effects for WHITE NOISE, a feature film starring Michael Keaton and directed by Geoffrey Sax. Principal photography was completed in Vancouver in October 2003. Stargate Digital visual effects supervisor Jennifer Eachren oversaw the on-set VFX in Vancouver, including design and pre-visualization. Digital visual effects will be finished in London under the direction of visual effects supervisor Simon Giles.

The U.K. studio, which employs 12 visual effects artists, will also be involved in a special DVD release of HIGHLANDER 2, the 1988 classic sci-fi fantasy film, which will boast an entirely new set of VFX and computer graphics.

Sam Nicholson has just been nominated by the Visual Effects Society for awards in the following categories: Outstanding Visual Effects in a Television Miniseries, Movie or a Special for HELEN OF TROY (along with Adam Ealovega, Joshua Hatton and Tim Donahue), and for Outstanding Visual Effects in a Television Series for ER #176008.

Stargate Digital (www.stargatefilms.com) is well known for the design and production of signature visual effects for such primetime TV series as CSI, ER, Las Vegas, West Wing, Threat Matrix, Dead Zone, Crossing Jordan and Third Watch. It is also currently providing visual effects for USA Network's Spartacus and Traffic mini-series.
