Sony Pictures loves working with Neill Blomkamp. Deadline.com reports that Sony has picked up the worldwide rights to the DISTRICT 9 filmmaker's followup feature ELYSIUM.

Matt Damon, Jodie Foster and Sharlto Copley are set to star in the intergalactic sci-fi tale, which will have design work from Syd Mead. Sony will release the film in late 2012.

Media Rights Capital's Modi Wiczyk, Simon Kinberg and Bill Block are producing.

Production will begin in Vancouver in July then move to Mexico City in the fall.

MRC has an overall deal with Blomkamp. They will produce his next film CHAPPIE directly following the completion of ELYSIUM.
