Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group has picked up the international film rights to Robert Rodriguez's MACHETE reports VARIETY. The revenge flick is based on the character, played by Danny Trejo, which appeared in the faux trailers of Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino's GRINDHOUSE. Film has one of the most eclectic casts, including Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Cheech Marin, Michelle Rodriguez, Rose McGowan and Lindsay Lohan.

Writer Rodriguez is co-directing the picture with his longtime editor Ethan Maniquis. The film centers on a former Mexican cop who seeks revenge against the villains that double crossed him.
