Return of the King Cleans Up At Saturn Awards

THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING was the big winner at the 30th annual Saturn Awards, garnering eight statuettes at the May 5, 2004 ceremonies held at the Universal Sheraton in Los Angeles. KING reigned in awards for best fantasy film, best actor (Elijah Wood), best supporting actor (Sean Astin), best director (Peter Jackson), best writing (Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens) and best music (Howard Shore), among others. THE TWO TOWERS also resurfaced taking the best DVD special edition release prize.

On the animation front, FINDING NEMO took home two awards for best animated film and best supporting actress for Ellen DeGeneres' work on the film. As well, BIONICLE: MASK OF LIGHT won the best DVD release award.

When it came to TV, ANGEL was the big winner taking the awards for best network television series (tied with CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION) best actor on television (David Boreanaz), best supporting actor on television (James Marsters) and best supporting actress on television (Amy Acker).

Producer Gale Anne Hurd (THE HULK) accepted this year's Dr. Donald A. Reed award for special achievement. Due to the filming on GHOSTS OF THE ABYSS, director James Cameron attended to accept his 2003 Reed Award, which he was unable to receive last year.
