The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences' vfx executive committee has approved the expansion of the vfx category from three nominees to five, reports VARIETY. Now the change needs to be approved by Awards Rules Committee and then the Board of Governors. The trade pub reports that branch changes are usually accepted, but such a big change is not a shoo-in.
