King Kong in Black and White?
Cinematographer Andrew Lesnie (THE RETURN OF THE KING), who was in Los Angeles over the weekend competing at the 18th annual ASC Awards (John Schwartzman won for SEABISCUIT), told VFXWORLD that he will be reuniting with director Peter Jackson to lense the upcoming KING KONG remake -- and that he's very open to shooting in black and white.
"Peter and I haven't discussed it yet, but I'm glad that you mentioned it because it's high on my list of items to bring up," Lesnie said of the new KONG, which, like the original classic, will be set in 1933, and goes into production next August. Lesnie also admitted that despite its horrible reputation, he admires the location work in the '76 remake produced by Dino De Laurentiis.
Weta Digital will perform vfx duties on KONG with Joe Letteri serving as visual effects supervisor.
Lesnie added that he's looking forward to returning to New Zealand and helping with the digital grading of the extended edition DVD of RETURN OF THE KING, which will run more than four hours and should be completed in April.
