While KICK-ASS doesn't hit theaters until April 13, 2010, writer Mark Millar told MTV that a sequel will "definitely" happen. Millar said that the first film teases about the sequel and he foresees the follow-up to start filming in two years. With a relatively small budget, Millar is positive the first film will do well, justifying a sequel. Lionsgate is distributing KICK-ASS, which Matthew Vaughn directed.
