THE LOS ANGELES TIMES reports that THE UNITED STATE OF TERA writer Sheila Callaghan has been hired to pen the feature adaptation of I DREAM OF JEANNIE. Callaghan's feminist playwright cred might help bring this long gestating project to life.

NATIONAL TREASURE writers Cormac and Marianne Wibberley and MULAN writer Rita Hsiao all took cracks at the adaptation but couldn't crack it. BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM director Gurinder Chadha was once attached to direct. At one point, Linsday Lohan was going to star, but that really didn't work out.

Another factor that put the brakes on past development was the failure of the BEWITCHED feature, starring Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell.
