The Hollywood Foreign Press Assoc. announced the nominees for the 2005 Golden Globe awards. To interest for the visual effects community, Peter Jackson earned himself a Best Director nomination for KING KONG, which also received a Best Score nod for James Newton Howard.

In addition, THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE’s Alanis Morissette song "Wunderkind” and Harry Gregson’s score were nominated. Comicbook fans will be delighted with A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE’s nods for Best Picture Drama and Best Actress Drama for Maria Bello. Moreover, KUNG FU HUSTLE was honored with a Best Foreign Film nod.

But the big surprise of the Golden Globes was Steven Spielberg’s highly-anticipated MUNICH not receiving a nomination for Best Picture, despite Spielberg receiving a nod for direction and the film garnering a screenplay nomination. Ang Lee’s gay cowboy love story BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN led the nominees with seven nominations, including Best Picture Drama along with VIOLENCE, THE CONSTANT GARDENER, GOOD NIGHT, AND GOOD LUCK and MATCH POINT.

As for the TV nominations, shows with vfx work took a majority of the Best Drama nods, which included LOST, PRISON BREAK and ROME as well as COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF and GREY’S ANATOMY.
