Hop Jumps To #1 at U.S. Box Office

Universal and Illumination's HOP bounced to #1 at the U.S. box office for the weekend of April 1-3, 2011. With vfx from Rhythm & Hues, the live-action/CG hybrid film put $38.1 million in its basket.

Summit Ent.'s SOURCE CODE traveled to second in its first week. With vfx from Modus Fx, Moving Picture Company (MPC), Oblique FX and Rodeo FX, the sci-fi thriller saved $15.1 million.

FilmDistrict's INSIDIOUS debuted in third. With vfx from Fractured FX, the haunted house scared up $13.5 million.

Fox's DIARY OF A WIMPY KID: RODRICK RULES slipped from first to fourth, bringing in another $10.2 million. The family funny flick has collected $38.4 million to date.

Relativity Media's LIMITLESS leapt into fifth with $9.4 million. With vfx from Comen VFX and LOOK! Effects, the drug-themed sci-fier has a cume of $55.6 million.

Lionsgate's THE LINCOLN LAWYER drove into sixth with $7.05 million. With vfx from Celluloid VFX and Furious FX, the law thriller has total box office winnings of $39.6 million thus far.

Warner Bros.' SUCKER PUNCH plummeted from second to seventh, bringing in $6.09 million. With vfx from Animal Logic, Digiscope, The Moving Picture Company (MPC), Pixomondo and Prime Focus, the box office disappointment has a cume of $29.9 million.

Paramount's RANGO roped an additional $4.6 million in eighth place. With animation from ILM, the animated hit has brought in $113.8 million.

Universal's PAUL abducted another $4.34 million in ninth. With vfx from Double Negative, Baseblack and Spectral Motion, the sci-fi comedy has earned $31.9 million thus far.

Placing tenth, Sony's BATTLE: LOS ANGELES blew up an additional $3.5 million. With vfx from Cinema Production Services, Cinesite, Hydraulx, Luma Pictures, Matte World Digital, Persistence of Vision Entertainment, SPIN VFX, Shade VFX, Soho VFX and Spectral Motion, the alien invasion film has a cume of $78.5 million.
