SHUTTER ISLAND scribe Laeta Kalogridis will adapt the anime classic GHOST IN THE SHELL into a 3-D live-action feature for DreamWorks, reports VARIETY.

Avi Arad, Ari Arad and Seaside Ent.'s Steven Paul are the producers.

Masamune Shirow's cyborg crime thriller manga was published in 1989. Since then it has spawned various graphic novel, anime, and TV adaptations. DreamWorks released the second film in the series, GHOST IN THE SHELL 2: INNOCENCE, in 2004.

Jamie Moss penned a first draft of the script.
