Expendables Dependable at the Box Office

Lionsgate's THE EXPENDABLES took siege on the U.S. box office for the weekend of Aug. 13-15, 2010. With vfx from Fantasy II Film Effects, the senior citizens on a mission flick hauled in $35 million.

Coming in second was Columbia's EAT PRAY LOVE. The romance gobbled up $23.7 million in its opening weekend.

Last week's champ THE OTHER GUYS slipped to third, bringing in another $18 million. With vfx from Evil Eye Pictures, Kerner Optical and RhinoFX, the buddy cop comedy has a cume of $70.5 million.

INCEPTION placed fourth with an additional $11.4 million. With vfx from Double Negative, the Warner Bros. hit has collected $248.6 million thus far.

Universal's SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD had a disappointing opening in fifth. With vfx from Double Negative, BlueBolt and Mr. X, the videogame culture send-up earned $10.5 million in coins.

Holding steady in sixth, DESPICABLE ME gained another $6.77 million. Universal's surprise animated hit has a cume of $222 million.

In at #7, STEP UP 3-D danced away with an additional $6.63 million. With vfx from CEG Media and Hirota Paint Industries, the Buena Vista release has made $29.6 million to date.

Sony's SALT tumbled from fourth to eighth, earning another $6.35 million. With visual effects from CIS Vancouver, Framestore, Hirota Paint Industries (HPI), Lola Visual Effects, Proof and RhinoFX, the spy tale has rounded up $103.6 million.

DINNER WITH SCHMUCKS had reservations at #9, making an additional $6.32 million. DreamWorks' idiots' soiree has a cume of $58.8 million.

Closing out the top ten, CATS & DOGS: THE REVENGE OF KITTY GALORE plotted another $4.08 million. The live-action/animation hybrid has earned $35.1 million thus far.
