British sales company Velvet Octopus will begin shooting a sequel to cult hit DONNIE DARKO on May 18th, reports SCREEN DAILY. The company will start sales of S. DARKO at Cannes. Fox will distribute the $10 million production in North America.

Chris Fisher (NIGHTSTALKER) is directing. BIG LOVE's Daviegh Chase will reprise her role as Donnie's little sister Samantha, who in the new film will be 18 and on a road trip with her best friend Corey when strange visions begin to consume her conscience. Cast will also include Ed Westwick (TV's GOSSIP GIRL), Briana Evigan (STEP UP 2: THE STREETS) and Justin Chatwin (THE INVISIBLE).

DONNIE DARKO creator Richard Kelly has been consulted for the project, but he is not involved officially.
