We concluded our focus last month on 3D environments and digital acting with Ellen Wolff’s “Flying The Virtual Skies in THE AVIATOR” and Isaac Kerlow’s “Creative Human Character Animation: THE INCREDIBLES vs. THE POLAR EXPRESS.” Rob Legato has quite a story to tell in how his team at Sony Pictures Imageworks recreated the aerial combat choreography from HELL’S ANGELS in Martin Scorsese’s Howard Hughes biopic, which opens Dec. 10.

And Kerlow, the author of THE ART OF 3-D COMPUTER ANIMATION AND EFFECTS, does an expert job of explaining and analyzing the different approaches to human character animation in these two ambitious movies.
