Despicable Me Doubles Box Office Estimates

Universal and Illumination Ent.'s DESPICABLE ME doubled projectors' estimates for its opening weekend, June 9-11, 2010. The animated comedy stole $60.1 million.

Summit's hit THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE rose in second with another $33.4 million. With vfx from Hatch Production, Image Engine Design, Lola Visual Effects, Rodeo FX, Tippett Studio and Wildfire Visual Effects, the teen supernatural sensation has earned $237 million thus far.

Fox's PREDATORS premiered in third with $25.3 million. Hybride Technologies and K.N.B. Effects Group provided visual effects.

TOY STORY 3 slipped to fourth, riding away with another $22 million. Pixar's trilogy finale has brought in $340.2 million to date.

THE LAST AIRBENDER took a nosedive from second to five, scooping up an additional $17.2 million. With vfx from DIVE, Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), Kerner Optical, Quantum Creation FX and Svengali Visual Effects, the live-action adaptation of the Nickelodeon animated series has collected $100.2 million.

Sony's GROWN UPS laughed in another $16.4 million. The Adam Sandler comedy has made $111.3 million so far.

Fox's KNIGHT & DAY dawned at seventh with $7.85 million. With vfx from Hydraulx, Rhythm & Hues, Soho VFX, Weta Digital and Wildfire Visual Effects, the Tom Cruise starrer has a cume of $61.9 million.

In at #8, Sony's THE KARATE KID round housed an additional $5.7 million. The remake has an impressive cume of $164.6 million.

Fox's THE A-TEAM landed in ninth, making another $1.8 million. With vfx from Digital Domain, Hydraulx, The Moving Picture Company (MPC), Proof and Soho VFX, the '80s TV series adaptation has earned $74 million.

Rounding out the top ten once again Fox Searchlight's comedy CYRUS brought in $1.38 million, lifting its cume to $3.52 million.
